Kangana was born on 20 March 1987 daughter of Asha and Amardeep Ranaut. Her father was a business man and her mother being a teacher. She went to DAV's High School, Dehradun and was brilliant in debating, elocutions, and sports.


She attended Science College, Simla. Besides college, she was enrolled in the Elite School of Modeling. She was also a member of the Smita Theater Group in Delhi. Apart from studying, modeling and theaters she is also a trained Kathak dancer.
In September 2005, she was signed for her debut Gangster by Anurag Basu.
Kangana has prove her acting skills in her movies like Fashion (2008), Queen (2014), Tanu weds Manu and Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015). She won many awards for her outsatnding performance in her movie Quee. 

Recently she was seen in Aap Ki Adalat accusing Hrithik Roshan (her present boyfriend) of threatening her to remain silent on their relationship.
