Padukone, is the daughter of an international level badminton player Prakash Padukone. As a teenager, she has played badminton in many national level championships but left her career in the sport to become a fashion model. 

Deepika was entitled Model of the Year in the fifth annual Kingfisher Fashion Awards. Shortly after this event, she was chosen as one of the models for the Kingfisher Fashion Swimsuit Calender for 2006 which made her a supermodel and she started receiving offers for film roles. Soon she made her debut in a Kannada movie Aishwarya in 2006. Recently rumours have been viral on starring her in DON 3.
